I’ve spent 2 years writing my book and getting my blog started. It’s time for me to go on a mission trip to Montana! That’s right, I said Montana. Here’s how I look at it, we need Christ whether in Africa Europe or even Montana! Anyone with a testimony of Jesus Christ as Savior and an open heart can go on a short-term mission trip. There are 2 scriptures that point this out to us.
- Mark 16:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
2. Matthew 28:18-20 New International Version (NIV)
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
According to my book, From the Couch to the Mission Field, there are 10 steps to get ready for a mission trip.
Below are 4 steps that can be done 6 months to 1 year before the mission trip. I will discuss how I’ve done or prepared for the 4 steps.
- Pray and ask for direction.
- Take an assessment of your physical health. Ask yourself how prepared you are to do work projects. What kind of projects can you do?
- Decide if you want to go on your short-term mission trip with a missions organization or a local church.
- After doing your research, choose a trip.
I have spent time in prayer about which trip to choose. I feel that we can almost choose any trip and find a purpose. But, I chose Montana because it is close and my best friend, Melissa, lives in Billings, MT and this was a trip she could go on also. I have been doing leadership training through In Motion Ministries, so I wanted to choose one of their trips. The travel requirements are easy for this trip since it is in the US. I don’t need a passport or vaccinations.
In Motion Ministry partners with another ministry, You Are Worthy.
You are worthy is a ministry to women. This trip is a ministry to the women on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana. It is always a great honor to go and encourage and teach others about who they are in Christ. We will be taking the You Are Worthy conference to these ladies. During our time together, I’m sure we’ll have many meaningful times. We’ll be crying and laughing while spending time in the Word and learning about our identity in Christ.
I still have a few more things to do before going on the trip. In Motion Ministry is having us prepare a devotional to present to our group and we have scriptures to memorize. When it is time to go, I’ll be flying to Billings, MT in order to ride with Melissa to CO for our training. Then the whole mission team will drive to the reservation for the mission trip. I am looking forward to seeing God work that week.
